CASH IN ON THE RESELLING BOOM

from:

"Buying and selling... has become the new economy," claims James Stephenson, author of 202 Things You Can Buy and Sell for Big Profits.

People from every walk of life, level of education and age group are buying and selling as a career choice rather than fighting to get a traditional job. And many of these people are discovering that they can work less, earn more, and be happier in the process! As manufacturing, technology, and middle-management jobs continue to disappear overseas into cheaper labor markets, many people have chosen self-employment as a way to keep in tune with changing times, make money and secure their long-term future.

Spurred by eBay and supported by more traditional marketplaces such as yard sales, flea markets, and classified ads, buying and selling as a career choice has vaulted into the mainstream population and pop culture. This trend is seen in television shows such as Antiques Roadshow, The Collectors, Trash to Treasure and Flea Market Finds. The proliferation of how-to books about selling on eBay and the rise of new online marketplaces also demonstrates the prevalence of this new economy.

The main beneficiaries of this trend, in addition to the individual resellers, are wholesalers, liquidators, craftspeople and manufacturers' sales agents, who are seeing an increased interest in their products as individuals hoping to turn a quick buck seek out these traditionally inexpensive buying sources. The products are then being sold on eBay and other online marketplaces; through classified advertisements; at auctions, flea markets and garage sales; in mall kiosks; in homebased showrooms; and even on personal websites.

Because of minimal startup costs and a huge variety of open marketplaces, hundreds of millions of people are trying their hand at cashing in on the reselling boom. Of eBay's 100 million registered users, more than 450,000 claim that selling products on eBay is their sole source of income. With online rivals to eBay, such as Google's Froogle and numerous independent sites, gaining in popularity, the boom only seems to be gaining in strength. And James Stephenson has a good eye for where the trend is going and how to cash in on its popularity.

202 Things You Can Buy and Sell for Big Profits provides the how-to knowledge for individuals who would like to join the buying and selling craze. It discusses every step required to start and run a buy and sell enterprise for success and profit. It explains the best products to sell, the best places to buy them cheaply, and the best places to sell them for maximum profits. The book also explores the advantages of buying and selling, what skills and knowledge are needed, negotiating strategies, what legal issues arise and how much potential profit is involved.
